THRIO Jazz Band from Raleigh, NC

Thrio, born out of the vibrant jazz scene in central North Carolina, is a trio consisting of pianist Andrew Berinson, bassist Paul Creel, and drummer Donovan Cheatham. The band's roots trace back to their time as students at North Carolina Central University's Jazz Studies program, where Andrew and Donovan first met, playing together in the NCCU Jazz and Vocal Ensembles. Paul, having studied at the University of North Florida and Florida State University, later found his way to Raleigh, where he crossed paths with Andrew and Donovan on the Triangle music scene. While Andrew hails from Raleigh, NC, Donovan spent most of his childhood in Richmond, VA, and Paul originally comes from North Florida. Despite their different origins, all three musicians have settled in the Raleigh-Durham area. Thrio's music is characterized by an exploratory and joyous sound, blending creative jazz standard arrangements with original compositions. Their debut single, "Find Your Way," was released in August 2022, followed by their full-length album, "Thrio Volume 1," in September 2022. Thrio is more than just a band; it's a musical brotherhood rooted in a shared sense of freedom, creativity, exploration, and a deep respect for jazz tradition. Each member brings their own unique musical voice to the group, resulting in a sound that's unmistakably Thrio. Beyond their work with the band, Andrew, Paul, and Donovan are in-demand sidemen on various other musical projects. Thrio's music is a reflection of their diverse influences, melding together with a shared love for God, swing, and brotherhood.
